A white merpony was seen in the shallows of the ocean's water, head turned in the direction of the soft yellow sands, although he could not see them. Small clicks and rumbles could be heard ever so lightly as he depicted the scene of the beach. He wanted to crawl up onto it's shores but he knew it was best not to. A small sigh escaped his lips, lifting his two front hooves to adjust the bandages wrapped snuggly over his hazy eyes. Sail was, in fact, almost completely blind, only able to see simple shapes and no color. He had never known a time in his life when he was able see the sights around him. So he always kept bandages over his eyes since they were fairly sensitive. Not to mention he didn't want other ponies staring at his mirky, discolored eyes.
After a few moments of continuous staring his wanting conquered over his common sense and with a flick of his dolphin-like tail he pushed himself up onto the shore. He pulled himself farther up onto the sands and laid out in the sun, allowing his skin to dry where his grey tail soon formed into legs. Sail enjoyed being able to walk, visiting the beaches of the islands quite often from his ocean home. He sat up, glancing around and making small clicking noises to make sure there was no one around. He wasn't in the mood for crude jokes toward his small size and vision impairment and he never knew when one of the ponies that was usually in on most of the teasing might pop up.

The waves come and go, as they crash on the shoreline. It seems rather placid and calm out behind the surf. But, underneath the waves is a fascinating game of tag. Two rainbow-haired merponies dashed in around the sea weed, chasing each other.
"Catch me if you can." A lythe, dark maroon mer taunted, his dark teal eyes giving a mischeifous glimmer as he shot throught the coral reef.
"No fair!" cried his chaser, a younger yellow one, as he chased after the older mer but without success. He was so dang fast. The yellow mer flipped his fins all the harder. His family was known for their speed but somehow he didn't get the good genes it seemed.
The darker one, stopped just a few yards away looking at his younger brother through a circle of seaweed. "Come on Kai, catch me." he said, taunting him a bit more.
Kaikala glared at him. "Oh that's it, Leith!" he growled. He pushed himself toward his brother. But Leith shot up towards the surface, throwing his body out of the very water like a breaching dolphin. Kaikala shot up after him keeping his eye on him as he broke the water's surface. He was going to get his brother, for once he'd win. Wait a minute, what's that...? He saw something behind his brother on the shore. He let himself fall back into the water and came back up on the jetty of rocks near the shore. He pulled his front half out of the water onto a rock and surveyed the sandy beach. There it was. Just like he saw from the ocean. A pony was on the shore, but he saw it had fins and now feet. Another mer?
Leith realized his brother had stopped chasing him. He came up behind him. "Kai, w..." he didn't get to finish. His brother's hoof was thrust over his mouth.
"Shhhh." Kaikala whispered putting a hoof to his mouth.
Leith followed his brother's gaze to the pony on the beach. "Hey, we don't know him."
Kaikala nodded. "Exactly." he whispered.
Now Leith was in guard mode, so to speak. He swam into the surf letting it take him to shore. His brother followed him. They both came up on the shore like seals. "Hey!" Leith barked coming up to the unknown pony. "Who are you?"

Sail's ears swiveled around as he heard splashing in the water nearby. He listened intently for a few minutes and then in stopped. He made small clicking noises to try and indicate where the source might be but he was unsuccessful so he simply sighed and continued to stare into blackness, imagining the beach and everything around him in his mind.
Sail didn't have much more time to himself as his ears picked up the sound of something that sounded as if it were dragging itself ashore. He began to click again to form the outline of what seemed to be two other sea ponies, like himself although he simply looked like a regular earth pony. "Hey!" One of them said a bit harshly. "Who are you?" Sail's ears shifted back slightly, frowning a at his tone. From what he could gather from the senses he did have they were both male. "Sail." He replied simply, straightening himself as if to make himself seem taller. It seemed as though he had ended up with all the bad genes. Ugly colors, blindness, and being shrimpy! This sucked majorly. "Who are you?" He asked, not bothering to turn his head in their direction. Even if they didn't seem too friendly it was probably just him being judgemental. Who knew? So might as well try to strike up a conversation even if it only lasted for a minute.

"Sail." He replied simply, straightening himself as if to make himself seem taller. . "Who are you?"
Leith and Kaikala looked at each other. He was smaller than they had percieved from the water. Still, he was a stranger. Leith pulled himself up on the dry sand, his tail fin drying quickly. Kaikala followed suit, his tail fin drying just a quickly.
"Sail." Leith repeated, his fin shifting into legs as he made his way to the smaller mer turned eath. "Where are you from?"
Kaikala's fins soon shifted into legs, as well. And he followed his brother up to the stranger. But he stopped when he saw the bandage over the pony's eyes. "What?" he said it to himself, not wanting to be rude.
Leith finally noticed it too. It stopped him only a few feet away from the stranger. Now he felt a bit foolish. He tried to fix things. "Uh, I'm Leith and.." He pulled his brother close like a friend. "This is my brother, Kaikala." He replied, politely, feeling very foolish now and very rude.
Kaikala said nothing, trying not to stare. He'd never seen a blind pony before.

"Sail." Sail nodded in approvoal to the pronunciation. It wasn't a hard name to pronounce but there had been some ponies that get the letters jumbled or something. "Where are you from?" "Here." Sail swiveled his ears in their direction as he could here their footsteps against the sand but they soon stopped and he could feel their gaze on him. Ah...they must have spotted the bandage or something. He had grown rather used to it by now.
"Uh, I'm Leith and...This is my brother, Kaikala." Sail made mor elight clicking noises to see that they were closer now. "Ah yes. The patrol." He had indeed heard of them, swimming around here and there in search of pirates or any troublesome ponies. Although, of course, he had never seen them or conversed. Sail was one to keep to himself so that was probably why they had never seen him before. "Catch anyone today?" He asked as if it was an everyday question, keeping his gaze over the sea. Why make eye contact when you basically didn't even have eyes?

"Here."
Leith and Kaikala looked at each other. he was from here? They had never seen him before.
"Ah yes. The patrol." Sail said. "Catch anyone today?" He asked as if it was an everyday question, keeping his gaze over the sea. Why make eye contact when you basically didn't even have eyes?
Kaikala glanced at Leith. How did he know what they were? They had never seen this mer before and they knew most mers around here. Leith walked over to Sail's right side, trying to look him in the face, a habit he always had even if the pony was blind. "We were just playing a little game."
Kaikala nodded. "Taking a break." He walked up to Sail's left side. "How come we've never seen you before if you've lived here your whole life?" he had to ask it. His ears swiveled forward as he watched the blind pony.

"We were just playing a little game." Sail nodded thoughtfully, turning his head slightly as he felt one of them trying to look at him. "Taking a break." "Yes, yes. A break every once in a while is always necessary. I'm sure patrol can get quite stressful." He said, turning his head a bit to his left side as he felt another one move there as well before turning his head back to face straight ahead.
"How come we've never seen you before if you've lived here your whole life?" Sail shrugged one of his shoulders. He wondered that as well. "Chance of fate I suppose?" He asked more-so himself. It's not like he tried to avoid anyone or anything. Or....maybe he did. He never liked approaching others on his own although he was quite fine if they approached him. Of course if they began to make smart remarks about his shortness or any flaws he already knew he had then he might not be the friendliest pony.

Kaikala blushed a bit when he found himself staring at the pony. He really, honestly tried not to. It's just, he'd never seen a blind one before. He edged closer, his curiousity getting the better of him. "How long have you.."
Leith cleared his throat loudly, causing Kaikala to look at him. The burgendy pony responded with a stern shake of his head. He knew what that question was going to be and he did not want his brother to be rude.
Kaikala's ears laid back a bit. What else was he supposed to say to this mer? Besides, he really wanted to know. But, seeing his brother's glare he decided to be tactful. "So, Sail, what do you do for fun?" he asked, lying on the beach next to him. Leith came up on the otherside, his ears perked as well.

Sail couldn't help but chuckle somewhat to himself mentally. He had a feeling he knew what Kaikala was about to ask. Although, even if he had asked it fully Sail most likely would have changed to subject quite quickly. He honestly hated it when other ponies pointed out his flaws. He knew very good and well what they were. At least the other mer had stopped him before he could say it.
"For fun? Sit here and look out over the water." It wasn't exactly what he did for fun. It was more like what he did to relax. Sail never really thought of doing things for 'fun'. He never really saw it necessary since he had never had someone to have fun with. It never bothered him though.
