Daisy May held the door open for her guest. "Here we are," she smiled.
The cottage was small, but cozy and homey. The furniture was obviously from a second-hand store: it looked rather worn, but it was not ready to meet its fate in the dump. In front of the sofa stood a coffee table covered with the pony's sketches, some done and many others unfinished. Underneath the coffee table were more papers filled with the Pegasus's drawings and even a few poems covered the shaggy purple rug. On a chair sitting next to the door leading to the kitchen lay a plush border collie. Leaning next to the chair was an open violin case that held a few pages of sheet music as well as the instrument.
"Are you hungry?" she inquired of her visitor. "I can make you something to eat if you'd like. Oh, and the loo is down the hall and to the right if you wanna' take a hot bath."

Satine entered the cottage with cation. Her senses were still alert. She was still worried about meeting up with those mers. A cold chill shot through her partially from being wet and partially from what she had seen in the ocean. Until she could regroup with the others, she couldn't run into those blood-thirsty mers. Another chill shook her as she walked into the living room a bit more. It was quite homey.
"Are you hungry?" Daisy May inquired of her visitor. "I can make you something to eat if you'd like. Oh, and the loo is down the hall and to the right if you wanna' take a hot bath."
Oh, a bath sounded like a great idea. She could finally get the sand and sea water out of her coat and hair. "If it's no trouble I'd love to take a bath."

Daisy May, always a good hostess, smiled courteously, "Of course, of course, you may! As I said before, it's down the hall and to the right. Don't go to the left 'cause that's the bedroom and if you go straight you'll just run into a wall. I'm sure you wouldn't want that."
Turning, she noticed the plush dog sprawled out on the chair. "Nina, not on my chair! You know better than that," she scolded the stuffed toy. With that said, she picked it up and placed it on the floor.

Another chill ran through the unicorn. She hoped she wasn't dripping on her hosts floor. "Thank you." she said and began to head down the hall to the bathroom. Her ear perked backwards when she heard Daisy May scold the stuffed dog but she didn't pay that much mind. All she wanted to do was get the sea water out of her fur and hair, to wash the iching sand off. So she opened the door to the loo. She didn't pay much attention to what it looked like. She just found the shower, turned it on, and hopped in. The water was just warming and she could feel the chill leave her almost immediately. Ah..... suddenly the world was alright again.

Remembering what she had told Velvet at the Pub, Daisy May went to make a fire for her visitor. The Pegasus threw some wood into the large stone fireplace and lit a match. She swiftly threw the match in, setting the wood ablaze. Feeling the fire's warmth wash over her, she sighed happily. It was wonderful to have someone with her again after being completely alone for so long. Being alone was nice, but spending too much time with Daisy May can bring a certain amount of insanity...even if you are Daisy May.
She next pranced, almost danced, into the kitchen to make her gorgeous guest some soup. Soup was always a good choice for someone who had just fallen into the ocean. She opened up a can of pre-made soup and poured it into a small pot. Turning on the stove, she began to stir her pre-prepared labour of love. The Pegasus decided to sing to keep herself from going mad from the silence.

Satine stood under the warming, soothing water, letting it run down her body, washing all the sand and brine from her coat. She rubbed some soap into her coat, lathering up. She also lathered up her hair. Then rinsed them thoroughly. Ahhh.... she hadn't felt so good in a long time, even before the wreck. She stood under the water a bit longer, lingering a bit before she shut it off and towl dried off, trying to get as dry as possible. As soon as she was satisfied and not dripping, she walked out of the bathroom and back into the living room. Her ears perked to the sound of singing.

Once the soup was hot, Daisy May poured it into a bowl. She was careful not to spill as she carried the green bowl to the kitchen table, continuing her song all the while. After putting the bowl down, she raised her voice slightly louder as she sang:
"Running through yesterday into tomorrow Don't let it just drift away Forget about tying the hands of time Give every minute to the One who's given today
"So don't let go Hold onto every moment Always know Hold on to every moment that you can..."
Realizing that she might be disturbing her guest, she ended her song there. She looked at the bowl of steaming goodness and hoped Velvet would like it. Of course she would, thought the Pegasus. After all, soup is good food and is filled with possibilities.

Satine stood still in the front room listening to the song, until it abruptly ended. Why she didn't know, but it was fine just the same for her. Singing kinda reminded her of her now sunk and utterly destroyed home. The thought brought a flash of aqnger to her eyes for just a second. With a sigh she let it go as quickly as it had come, with sullen sigh. She missed the ship and all the others, if they were even alive. Another flash of anger. She held her breath. Let it go. Another sigh. She made sure her host was still in the kitchen. She was. Another sigh then the unicorn put on her happy, innocent, and completely fake little smile. She could not afford for anyone to find out who she really was and what she was. She went to the window, carefully looking outside. She could not mess this up. She was safe here....for now.

Daisy May left her soup to go check the fire. After all, it would be a shame if her cottage burnt down now after she finally got some company. So, softly humming the tune from before, she stepped lightly into the living room.
Poking the firewood with a pointy thing, she sighed and then added another log. She inhaled deeply. Chimney smoke was one of her favourite smells, probably her second favourite smell. Coffee was number one, naturally.
"Burn, baby, burn," she grinned wickedly as she watched the the fire dance on the wood.

Satine turned abruptly, realising she had gotten a little lost in her many thoughts. She quickly pulled the drapes back into their position before going to sit by the nice, warm, roaring fire. She glanced around at the cottage, her green eyes taking in every little thing before they met her hosts. She gave another innocent smile and sighed. Yes siree, she had definitely picked a perfect place to hide for a while. Her eyes came back to the fire that her host was poking. She wished she had something to drink as she watched the flames rise and dance around the logs. Fire had always distracted the unicorn, ever since she was young. She used to love to spend hours watching it spark and burn things. Of course, when her island was swallowed in flames and lava....well, that was frightening. She gained a new appreciation for the destructive power of the flames, that day. Oh once again her thoughts came back to that day, the day her life was changed forever, the day she was to live on a ship with the other surviors. Her muzzle wrinkled on its own from disdain. "What others?" she heard her mind growl. "What survivors?" She breathed a sigh, trying to gather her inner composure as the fire popped in front of her. She gave a slight shake of her head and smiled once again, looking for some kind of distraction from her thoughts. She looked at her host. "Thank you so much for your hospitality." The sent of the soup wafted to her nostrils. She inhaled the smell and felt the growl of her stomach. "Wow, that smells delicious."

"Oh, it's quite all right!" Daisy May exclaimed. "It's nice having someone over again. It's been awhile since I've entertained. Oh, and that reminds me! I made some soup for you."
With that said, she flew into the kitchen and brought out the bowl of steaming goodness. She handed to her guest and sat by the fire again.
"Enjoy. It's homemade from my mother's recipe," she said as wondered if she had thrown away the soup's can.

Satine took the soup eagerly, realizing how hungry she actually was. She didn't bother with the eating utensil. She just sipped it from the bowl, her sea salted, numb tongue could barely taste anything since she had swallowed so much sea water. Still, it was satisfying the burning hunger that seemed to creep up on her with every sip. Soon the the soup was gone and she put the bowl down with a very satisfied smile of pure content. "Thank you so much." she said, feeling her belly feed on the warm goodness as she sat there, close to the fire, watching the flames dance. At this moment, all seemed to be peaceful for her. The mers were pushed to the back of her mind and she reveled in warmth of this place, the safety of this place.

Daisy May could not help but giggle as she watched the unicorn drink the soup so eagerly. It reminded her of the first time that she had coffee...like a miracle in a cup.
"Wow. You sure were hungry," she commented. "Did you want anymore or something else to eat?"

Satine gave a sweet smile as she felt the warm soup make it's way to her now satisfied belly. "No, thank you." she replied, looking into the flames of the crackling fire. She was more than content at this moment and it felt good. Still, she knew she had to keep her guard up. It was time to find out more about her host. With a sigh, she looked into the eyes of Daisy May, keeping her smile. "How long have you lived here?"

Daisy May sat next to her guest, and gazed into the fire with her. It felt wonderful to have someone over again. Although she did not entertain often, she enjoyed having guests.
How long have you lived here?
Daisy May was pleased that Velvet was not just going to eat and run. Conversation was always a good thing...espicially since the Pegasus did not want the unicorn to leave. She had not realized how lonesome she had been since she had moved to the island.
"Not very long," she replied, "I used to live in Ponyville but I desired a warmer climate."
Daisy May hesitated about going on. She really wanted to tell Velvet about something, but she hardly knew her. Perhaps she should tell part of her past, then be all secretive and speak in riddles about other parts. Girls love the mysterious type, right?
"I really only lived in Ponyville for a little while also. I moved there when I was kicked out of my old home town. But I found that city life just quite isn't as great as it sounded," she added after her slight pause.
